Dear neighbours,
I live in the Hindmarsh Ward. In both my career and personal life, I’ve focussed on supporting others to achieve their life goals. Fulfilment is easier when those around us also feel fulfilled. Most recently, my research has focussed on the importance of building ‘villages’ that promote a sense of belonging
as a source of resilience and quality of life. When I talk with people in my area, there is a sense of urgency. More is needed to bring people together, to maintain our community as a great place to live, while facing up to
new challenges, like climate change. Local councils should be at the forefront of community building, but most people
I meet say they feel disconnected from their council representatives.
While infill development may be positive in many ways, for us living here – now, the transition can be difficult.
The Charles Sturt Council is well-placed to ensure our voice is heard, so that the historically embedded ‘community feel’ valued by residents in this area, is nurtured during periods of change.
People ask: Where have all the car parks gone? Why are our bins not being emptied? Why are drains backing up? A robust dialogue between Council and State Govt. informed by community experience is needed.
