Trees contribute to all of these policies. Trees improve the ambience and liveability of a village, and reduce heat at street level. Hindmarsh Ward is the hottest part of the City of Charles Sturt (see heat map) and this is partly due to the relative lack of trees.
Charles Sturt has an active canopy policy, but the rate of plantings are not stopping the rate of tree loss. We need to do more with our planning scheme to ensure trees and greenery are a bigger part of every street and every life.
